3 Takeaways from Attending the Mel Robbins Show!

One of my friends let me know that Mel Robbins was taping the first season of her new show right in NYC. So, I had to go! Find out what I learned inside!

 

A few weeks ago, one of my friends and clients kindly let me know that Mel Robbins was taping the first season of her new show (!) here in New York.

I was able to get tickets and before I knew it, I was sitting on the stage of the show, next to Mel Robbins!

In case you are new to Mel, she is a Life Coach and best-selling author of one of my favorite books, The 5 Second Rule. This book hugely helped me take action when I was starting my business.

I highly recommend the Audible version.

 

Takeaways from Mel Robbins

I can’t wait to share the episode with you when it comes out, which should be in September.

In the meantime, I wanted to share some of my takeaways of what she talked about, as well as takeaways of my experience being part of the show’s audience!

 

1. What’s Her Mission: Undo the Number One Thing Holding You Back

Mel’s entire show is centered around changing your thinking so that you can change your life.

She started out by saying that the one single thing that’s holding ALL of us back is our own negative self-talk.

It’s not our own potential, our financial situation, our intelligence, our network, or any other fact. It’s the negative self-talk.

Knowing that alone is somewhat freeing, don’t you think? Negative self-talk is nothing more than a habit. Habits can be difficult to break, but they can be broken.

This means that you can undo the one single thing holding you back the most.

 

2. What She Shared: Our Most Common Fear is That We’re Not Good Enough

Because Mel is on a mission to reverse our negative self-talk, she started with identifying what that looks like for us individually.

She had us (the audience) write down one negative thought we think daily. When we revealed our answers, the majority of the answers said something about not being good enough.

Turns out, telling ourselves that we’re not good enough for something is the SINGLE most common negative thought we tell ourselves daily.

Knowing that we all feel that way is both heartbreaking and a relief. It’s sad that so many of us don’t feel worthy of our own goals. On the reverse side, it’s a reminder that we are all just figuring it out. 4

No one but you can give you permission to go for something or to be ready.

 

3. What I Learned About Me: Said “Yes” Always, Even in the Overwhelm!

I was so excited to go see this show.

But truth be told, the morning of I nearly canceled and didn’t go. It was a week before the launch of a program and my international bachelorette party.

I was in the thick of wedding planning and my business was busy! Simply put, I didn’t have a whole lot of extra time on my hands.

In the end, I ended up getting there right before the capacity was me and my friend and I were the second to last people in the audience.

But, as they had filled it up and we thought we were going to be in the back row at the end, they liked the bright color of my dress and put us on stage with Mel herself!

So look out for me when the episode comes out!

 

Conclusion

All this is to say that if I would’ve let the overwhelm and exhaustion dictate my decision, I wouldn’t have shaken hands with Mel Robbins herself that day.
